Danish architect who became famous for building the “Sydney Opera House” | 1918 born in Copenhagen / Denmark | 1937 studies architecture in Copenhagen | 1942 becomes employee of Swedish architect in Stockholm | 1946~ works for Alvar Aalto; visits Frank Lloyd Wright ´s home in Taliesin, Arizona desert; travels to Mexico and Europe | 1950 founds own studio in Copenhagen | 1952 builts his own open-plan house | 1957 wins the competition to design the “Sydney Opera House”; travels to China (learns about harmony) and Japan (learns about interaction between interiors and exteriors) | 1957-66 lives in Australia | 2003 honoured by Pritzker Architecture Prize | 2003 receives honorary doctorate from the “University of Sydney” | 2008 died in Copenhagen
