German architect and one of the most important representatives of organic architecture | 1893 born in Bremen, Germany | 1909 drafts his first architectural design | 1911 enters architectural competition for the modernisation of a church | 1914 stops to study architecture at the “Technical Universal of Berlin” | 1914 volunteers for service in the First World War | 1918 opens office in Insterburg (Russia today) | 1919 takes over an office as a freelance architect in Breslau (Poland today); joins Bruno TAUT’s expressionist circle of architects “Gläserne Kette” | 1925-32 professorship at the “Breslau Academy of Arts and Crafts” | 1926 joins the architects’ association “Der Ring” (a.o. Mies VAN DER ROHE and Walter GROPIUS) | 1972 died in Berlin
