Austrian architect and important representative of “classical modernism” | 1892 born in Vienna | 1910-18 studies at the “Vienna University of Technology” | 1912 attends Adolf LOOS school of architecture | 1921-23 works in Berlin as Erich Mendelsohn´s assistant | 1923 moves to the USA | 1924 works in Chicago; gets invited to Frank Lloyd Wright´s home in Taliesin | 1925 moves to Los Angeles, works for his fellow student Rudolph Schindler | 1929 becomes US citizen | 1930s~ builts houses, which were characterised by their harmonious integration into nature | 1948 lecture tour through Europe | 1949-64 partnership with Robert E. Alexander | 1964 elected to “American Academy of Arts and Letters” | 1966-69 lives in Vienna | 1970 died in Wuppertal / Germany
