Kimii-dera, the temple located 231 steps up the mountain, is popular for its early cherry blossom and the panoramic view over the bay of Wakanoura. The place was founded back in 770 by a Chinese monk. The current main hall dates back to the 18th century. Due to its proximity to Wakayama-jô castle, the castle lords of different generations also visited the temple.
