Manpuku-ji 萬福寺

Ôbaku Zen Buddhist temple

Uji City

Manpuku-ji is the head temple of the Japanese Ōbaku Zen school founded in 1668 by the Chinese monk Ingen (1592-1673) in Uji City. Until the 18th century, the Zen temple was run by Chinese priests, and from the 14th abbot by Japanese monks. Influences of the Chinese Ming dynasty have been visibly preserved not only in the construction of the complex, but also in the art, way of life and rituals to this day. The wooden gong in front of the dining hall and the 18 rakan figures in the main hall exude a certain extravagance.
