Temple of the Myoshin-ji School of Rinzai Zen Buddhism, located in Fukuoka City. It was founded by Eisai (1141-1215), buddhistischer Priester who brought the Rinzai school of Zen Buddhism and tea seeds from China to Japan, and is known as Japan’s first full-fledged Zen temple. The precincts are designated as a national historic site and the temple complex was mainly rebuilt in the Edo period (1603-1868).
