Hiraizumi City

Temple complex built in 1105 and extended until 1126 in the municipality of Hiraizumi in the northern prefecture of Iwate. Together with the garden of the nearby Môtsu-ji, some of the temple’s buildings (Golden Hall) are among the most important architectural artefacts of the Heian period (794-1185). The Nô stage on the grounds was built by DATE Masamune, the daimyô of Morioka.
