Shôhô-ji is a temple of the Buddhist Ôbaku school built in 1638 in the city of Gifu. The branch temple of the well-known Manpuku-ji in Uji houses the daibutsu, an almost 14 m high Great Buddha, which was completed at the beginning of the 19th century after about 40 years of construction. First, thousands and thousands of sutra copies and finally clay and lacquer were applied to the bamboo body.
