Rinnô-ji – Japanese Buddhist Temple | Hartmut Pohling
A temple founded by the Buddhist priest Shôdô Shônin as early as the 8th century. In the mid-17th century, a number of extensions were carried out on the Daiyû-in mausoleum of shôgun TOKUGAWA Iemitsu. In 1999, the temple, along with other buildings in Nikkô, was designated a ‘World Heritage Site’ by UNESCO.
