Arnaldo POMODORO
(1926 – 2025)
Italian sculptor who lives and works in Milan since 1954. Pomodoro’s work reflects his work as a goldsmith and his interest in the technical age. In the 1960s, he develops his abstract formal language. In the process, he breaks open the shell of the geometric bodies, and an inner life becomes visible to the viewer | 1926 born in Province of Rimini, Italy | 1949-1951 studies set design at “Academy of Arts of Pesaro” | 1966-68 works in studio of “Stanford University”, California; visiting professor at “University of California” | 1980-84 teaches at “Mills College”, Oakland | 1990 honoured by Praemium Imperiale awarded by Japanese imperial house | 1995 founds the “Arnaldo Pomodoro Foundation” in Milan | 2025 died aged 98, at his home in Milan
