Antoine BOURDELLE

(1861 – 1929)

French sculptor and art teacher. He left school at 13 to work as a woodcarver in his father’s cabinetmaking shop. Becomes pioneer of monumental sculptures of the 20th century | 1861 born in Montauban / France | 1885 scholarship to the “École des Beaux-Arts” in Paris | 1888 produces first sculptures of Beethoven | 1893 works as Auguste RODIN’s assistant; develops into a well-known teacher | 1909-29 teaches at “Académie de la Grande Chaumière” in Paris | 1929 died in Le Vésinet
