Swedish artist who is, along with Andy WARHOL and Roy LICHTENSTEIN, one of the most important representatives of American Pop Art | 1929 born in Stockholm | 1930-46 grows up in New York, Oslo and Chicago | 1946-50 studies art and English literature at “Yale University” in New Haven | 1956 moves to New York City; meets happening artists, who influenced his collages and objects | 1958~ makes assemblages of various waste products | 1959 founds art gallery “Judson Gallery” with other artists | 1965~ concentrates on giant objects | 1976~ works with Dutch artist Coosje van Bruggen (1942-2009) | 1982 makes a twelve-metre-high pickaxe for Documenta 7 in Kassel | 2022 died in New York City
