British sculptor | 1903 born in Wakefield, England | 1920/21 studies at the “Leeds School of Arts”, where she meets Henry MOORE, followed by sculpture studies at the “Royal College of Art” in London and Italy | 1924 receives a scholarship for a year-long art trip to Florence and Rome | 1927 returns to London | 1931-34 joins the “Seven and Five Society” | 1933 travels to France to meet Pablo PICASSO, Hans ARP and Georges BRAQUE | 1937 published a book on constructivist artists | 1950 her work is exhibited in the British Pavilion at the “25th Venice Biennale” | 1954-56 carves six sculptures from the guarea tree | 1960 purchases a large studio to produce larger-scale works | 1969-71 creates sets of lithographs | 1975 died in Cornwall, England
