Alicia PENALBA

(1913 – 1982)

Argentinian-French sculptor who was one of the most important representatives of abstract art after the Second World War. She lives and works for most of her life in Montrouge and Paris in France. Her works, mainly abstract bronze sculptures borrowed from natural forms, were shown at numerous exhibitions worldwide | 1913 born in San Pedro near Buenos Aires, Argentina | 1948 moves to Paris with a scholarship from the French government | 1949 studies under Ossip ZADKINE at the “Académie de la Grande Chaumière” in Paris and at the “Academie Argentina de Bellas Artes” in Buenos Aires | 1955 first exhibition of her works in Paris at the “Salon des Réalités Nouvelles” | 1959 + 1964 participates in documenta 2 and documenta 3 in Kassel, Germany | 1982 died in Paris
