Colombian figurative artist and sculptor who is one of the most famous visual artists in Latin America. Botero’s art has a very special characteristic. All his figures are voluminous. In his aesthetic, voluminous people are beautiful | 1932 born in Medellín / Colombia | 1951 moves to Bogotá, capital of Colombia, shortly afterwards to Europe | 1952 studies at the “Academia de San Fernando” in Madrid | 1953 moves to Paris, studying works in the Louvre | 1953-54 lives in Florence, Italy, studying works of Renaissance masters | 1977 creates a variation of Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa” with a spherical face | 2004 exhibits drawings and paintings dealing with the violence in Colombia from the drug cartels
