Swiss architect, artist, university lectures and as a painter, one of the most important representatives of the “Zürich Schule der Konkreten” | 1908 born in Winterthur, Switzerland | 1924-27 trains as a silversmith at the “Zurich School of Arts and Crafts” | 1927-28 studies at the Bauhaus in Dessau | 1929~ works as an architect | 1932~ works as an sculptor, graphic artist and painter; becomes a member of the artist movement “Abstraction-Création” in Paris | 1936~ works as a publicist and founds the “Allianz-Verlag” | 1967+1974 helds the chair of environmental design at the “Hamburg University of Fine Arts” | 1976 becomes member of the “Academy of Arts” in Berlin; writes books on art and architecture, particular on Le Corbusier and Mies van der Rohe | 1993 honoured by Praemium Imperiale awarded by the Japanese imperial house | 1994 died in Berlin
