Japanese architect, known for his research into the history of architecture and for his architectural theory. He is the president of the “Metabolism Study Group” | 1948 born in Yamagata Prefecture | graduates from “Ibaraki Prefectural Mito Daiichi High School”, which has produced many architects, including SEJIMA Kazuyo and HINO Naohiko | graduates from the “Department of Urban Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Tôkyô” – last student of TANGE Kenzo when he taught at the University of Tôkyô | 1979-1985 withdrews from doctoral course and works for ISOZAKI Arata | 1985 establishes “Urban Project Machine” (UPM) | 1988 director of “Kumamoto Artpolis” | 2003-2014 professor at “Shibaura Institute of Technology”, Tôkyô
