磯崎新 (1931 – 2022)
Japanese architect of international standing, many guest lectures at renowned universities: Harvard, Yale and UCLA. Originally a major proponent of metabolism, he then turned to geometry as the original mother of Japanese design: Picturesque works of art from Japan, influenced by the West | 1931 born in Ôita / Kyûshû | 1953-61 student of TANGE Kenzô at “Tôkyô University” | 1961-63 graduates with a doctorate; employee of TANGE Kenzô | 1963 opens own architectural office | 1983 honorary member of the “Association of German Architects” (BDA) | 1986 receives “Royal Gold Medal” for his life’s work | 1991 designs “Team Disney Building” in Florida | 1998 honorary member of the “American Academy of Arts and Letters” | 2005 opens office in Italy | 2019 honoured by Pritzker Architecture Prize | 2022 died in Naha / Okinawa
