Japanese architect who was involved in the construction of the new Imperial Palace. He taught many architects who in turn became successful | 1908 born in Tôkyô | 1931 graduates from “Tôkyô Fine Arts School” (now “Tôkyô University of the Arts”), where he studies under Antonin RAYMOND | 1941 establishes own design office | 1955 collaborates with MAEKAWA Kunio and SAKAKURA Junzô to design the “International House of Japan” in Tôkyô | 1962-70 professor at “Tôkyô National University of Fine Arts and Music” | 1990 becomes member of the “Japan Art Academy” | 1994 honoured as a person of special cultural merit | 1997 died
