1872 born in Fukuyama | 1894 attends the Faculty of Engineering at the “Imperial University of Tôkyô” | 1901-03 send to Europe by the Ministry of Culture, where he visits various countries; meets Frank Lloyd WRIGHT; becomes professor at today´s “Kyōto University of Technology” | 1904 works for Kyōto prefecture, looking after preservation of Byōdō-in and Kinkaku-ji | 1908 works for the “Ministry of Finance”, travels to the USA and Europe | 1915 awards a doctorate in engineering | 1916 secures the wall painting of Hôryû-ji | 1918 director of “Nagoya Engineering School” | 1920-32 professor at “Kyôto Imperial University” | 1938 died in Kyôto
