Japanese architect and urban planner | 1923 born in Miharu, Fukushima prefecture | 1944 was hit by a bullet through a wardrobe in his room at his lodgings during Tôkyô Air Raid | 1944-47 studies at the architecture department of the “Tôkyô Imperial University” (today “University of Tôkyô”) | 1947-61 works for MAEKAWA Kunio | 1960 takes the opportunity of the “World Design Conference” in Tôkyô to form the Metabolism Group – the first architectural philosophy and movement in post-war Japan – with KAWAZOE Noboru, KIKUTAKE Kiyonori, KUROKAWA Kishô, MAKI Fumihiko, etc | 1962 establishes his office “Ôtaka Architectural Design Office” in Tôkyô | 2010 he died
