Japanese architect, born as the son and grandson of master church builders, who grew up as an Orthodox Christian spending most of his time in church, where the relationship between space, prayer and form made a strong impression to him and influenced later his search for approaches other than the rational form | 1933 born in Tôkyô | 1956 graduates in architecture at “Waseda University” | 1958 completes master´s programme; starts working for metabolist pioneer KIKUTAKE Kiyonori | 1967 sets up own office | 1972-74, 1979-81, 1988-90 vize- and chairman of the “Japan Institute of Architects” | 1992 completes doctorate at “Kyôto University” | 1993-96 professor in architectural department at “Kyôto University” | 1996-2002 professor at “Shiga Prefectural University” | 2002 died
