佐藤功一 (1878 – 1941)

Japanese architect – father of SATÔ Takeo – known as the founder of the department of architecture in the school of science and engineering at “Waseda University” and as a pioneer in architectural education for women | 1878 born in Shimono City | 1903 graduates from “Tôkyô Imperial University of Technology” | 1908 adopted by the SATÔ family | 1909-10 dispatched by Waseda University to visit Europe and America | 1911 becomes professor at Waseda University | 1917 establishes Hakuchikai with YANAGIDA Kunio for the purpose of preserving old houses | 1921 lecturer at “Tôkyô Women’s Higher Normal School” | 1923 commissioned to work on the reconstruction of Tôkyô (after Great Kantō earthquake on September 1) | 1925  professor at “Japan Women’s University” | 1941 died
