Japanese architect and former president of the “Architectural Association of Japan” | 1901 born in Hashima, Gifu Prefecture | 1927 graduates from the department of aesthetics at “Tôkyô Imperial University” (today “University of Tôkyô”) – and then decided to become an architect | 1928 enters military service | 1929-31 studies in Paris | 1931-36 works with LE CORBUSIER in Paris, as one of three Japanese architects, including MAEKAWA Kunio + YOSHIZAKA Takamasa | 1936 builds the Japanese pavilion for the Paris Expo | 1940 founds “Junzô Sakakura Architectural Institute”  (later “Sakakura Architectural Institute”) in Tôkyô | 1948 founds office in Ôsaka | 1964 becomes president of the “Japan Institute of Architects” | 1969 died in Tôkyô; was awarded the “Order of the Sacred Treasure”; “SAKAKURA ASSOCIATES” was founded
