reconstructed castle / japanische Burg
Toyama City
The castle was built in the middle of the 16th century and taken over by a vassal of ODA Nobunaga in 1581. Four years later it was conquered and destroyed by TOYOTOMI Hideyoshi. The castle burned down in 1609 and was rebuilt in 1661. MAEDA Masatoshi, second son of the first ruler of the clan, served as administrator of Takata Castle from 1681 and continued his father’s policy of establishing a clan system. He promoted the civil and military arts, founded the iron industry and actively promoted the pharmaceutical industry. The MAEDA family took over the fortress until the beginning of the Meiji period (1868-1912). In 1858, the castle was destroyed by an earthquake and demolished in 1871. The main tower was not rebuilt until 1954.
