Completed in 1535 by TAKENAGA Yoshitada, Kaminoyama-jô castle – also known as Tsukioka-jô – in Tsukioka Park of the small town of Kaminoyama, marked the southernmost point of the MOGAMI clan’s sphere of influence at the time and was also the focal point of power struggles between the MOGAMI clan and the DATE under DATE Masamune. The castle was demolished in 1692 and not rebuilt until 1982.
