From 1586, after completion of Takayama-jô castle, seat of the KANAMORI – see also KANAMORI Nagachika -, family of a general under HIDEYOSHI Toyotomi. The town of Takayama quickly developed into the centre of the then province of Hida. From 1692, the shogunate in Edo took control of the town and province.
