The castle complex has existed since the middle of the 16th century, the main tower since 1620. MATSUDAIRA Takechiyo or MATSUDAIRA Motoyasu, later known as TOKUGAWA Ieyasu (1542-1616), was born in Okazaki-jô and lived there until 1570. Later lords of the castle were the TANAKA and HONDA families. With the end of feudalism, the castle lost its importance and fell into disrepair over the years. It was not rebuilt until 1959.
