Ujigami-jinja is a Shinto shrine in Uji City, Kyoto prefecture, located at the foot of Mount Asahiyama on the eastern bank of the Uji river. It is formerly a village shrine and a counterpart to the neighbouring Uji Shrine. The date of foundation and other origins are not clear. It is just opposite the Byōdō-in, for which it was designed as a guardian shrine. Until the Meiji Restoration, this shrine formed a single unit with the Uji shrine. Together with several other shrines, temples and castles in Kyōto, the Ujigami-jinja was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site Historic Kyōto (Kyōto, Uji and Ōtsu) in 1994.
