Imahie-jingû

新日吉神宮

Imahie shrine / japanischer Shintô-Schrein

Kyôto City

Founded in 1160, Imahie-jingû welcomes visitors with an impressive entrance gate that houses guardian figures called zuijin on either side. There are several bronze monkey figures on the shrine grounds. The shrine’s festival, the Imahie-matsuri, which is based on ancient rituals of the imperial court, was revived 800 years earlier by the then Emperor Go-Shirakawa.
