Nikkô National Park / Nikkô Nationalpark

National park in the Kantô region which is centred on the city of Nikkô and covers three prefectures: Tochigi, Gunma and Fukushima. The park offers a rich fauna and flora as well as a large number of mountains and hot springs and was declared a national park in 1934. The mountains to the west of the city are part of the national park, which includes Mount Nansai, the Kegon Falls and Lake Chūzenji. Historical buildings and monuments include the mausoleum of Shōgun TOKUGAWA Ieyasu, the Nikkō Tōshō-gū, the Nikkō Futarasan, a Shintō shrine dating back to 767 and the equally ancient Rinno-ji, a Buddhist temple.
