Enoshima 江の島
Fujisawa City / Kanagawa Prefecture
A few kilometres west of Kamakura City, jutting out into Sagami Bay, lies the island of Enoshima, which has been connected to the mainland by a bridge since 1949. In front of the bridge is an extensive bathing beach, the easternmost tip of the Shônan Coast and the western tip of Koshigoe Beach. The island is one of the 100 scenic spots in Japan. Enoshima has always been home to a shrine to Benten / Benzaiten, originally a Hindu goddess from India and one of the Seven lucky gods of Japan. The Saifuku-ji or Enoshima Daishi is the only Buddhist temple on the island.
