Naoshima is a small fishing island on the coast of the Seto Inland Sea between Honshû and Shikoku. In the 1990s, representatives of Benesse Corporation, a Japanese publisher of textbooks, and architect ANDÔ Tadao got together and created the “Benesse Art Site Naoshima” project, a series of museums around the theme of “nature and art” and outdoor works from KUSAMA Yayoi, Niki de Saint Phalle and Karel Appel, The south side of Naoshima is a lush green coast and is designated as “Seto Inland Sea National Park”.
