Futami-ga-ura 二見浦
Meoto Iwa Rocks / Futami Okitama Shrine
part of “Ise-Shima National Park”
In the small town of Futami-ga-ura, located a few kilometers northeast of the city of Ise by the sea, there is a major attraction of the Ise-Shima National Park: the “married couple rocks” (me-oto-iwa), which protrude from the sea and are connected by a strong straw rope called “shimenawa”. According to mythology, these rocks symbolize the Japanese creator deities Izanagi and Izanami.
