Japanese artists

Japanese contemporary art is largely oriented towards global art trends, but also draws its influences from Japanese tradition. The presence of a densely populated urban environment and various traumas that Japan has experienced since the mid-1940s (defeat in World War II, atomic bombing, earthquakes, economic crisis, etc.) resulted in a diverse art that is little known in the West. In addition, the influence of the original avant-garde movement, which developed from 1956 onwards, has clearly shaped contemporary art to this day.
