SHINGÛ Susumu 新宮晋
(1937~)
Japanese artist who works with wind and water and who has been creating sculptures that make the hidden energies of these elements visible. Architects, like his friend Renzo PIANO, have their monumental buildings enlivened by his work | 1937 born in Toyonaka City | 1960-66 after graduating from the “Tôkyô School of Fine Arts”, now Tokyo University of the Arts, he moves to Italy and studies painting at the “National School of Fine Arts” in Rome | 1966 exhibits three-dimensional works at the “Blue Gallery” in Milan; returns to Japan the same year | 1971-72 visiting artist at “Center for Visual Arts”, Harvard University | 2000-2001 “Wind Caravan”, installs works in the natural scenery of six remote places on the earth and interacted with people from each place
