Japanese sculptor | 1897 born in Suwa-gun, Nagano prefecture | 1923 travels to Europe and becomes a student of Émile-Antoine BOURDELLE at the “Académie de la Grande Chaumière” in Paris; exhibits paintings and sculptures | 1928 returns to Japan, becomes professor at the “Imperial School of Fine Arts” (now “Musashino School of Art”) | 1954 receives the “Academy of Arts Prize” for his sculpture “Rhythm of Green” | 1965 becomes member of the “Academy of Arts”; participates, together with Ossip ZADKINE and others as a juror of an international sculpture competition in Geneva | 1981 died
