Toba 鳥羽

The seaport of the small town of Toba, with a population of 15,000, in Ise-Shima National Park forms the southern entrance to Ise Bay. The bay has many islands, including Pearl Island, where MIKIMOTO Kôkichi (1858-1954) successfully cultivated pearls in oyster shells in 1893. Visitors to the town can also watch the white-clad ama divers at work.
