Beppu City 別府市

Kyûshû

Beppu has only 113,000 inhabitants (2023), but is visited by several million people every year. The thermal spa town is located on the north-eastern coast of Kyûshû Island. The city owes its popularity to the more than three thousand thermal baths (onsen) – as well as the “hell” (jigoku), a colourful geyser and solfatare area.
