Izumo City 出雲市

Izumo City is a city located in the central-eastern part of Shimane Prefecture. It has the third-largest population – around 170,000 inhabitants in 2026 – in the San’in region, after Matsue City and Tottori City, and is the central city of the western Izumo region. Within the former Izumo Province, known as the ‘Land of Myths’, the city is home to a particularly large concentration of historical and cultural heritage sites symbolic of ancient history, including such landmarks as Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine.
