Hiroshima City 広島市

The prefectural capital Hiroshima, with 1.2 million inhabitants, is located on the Inland Sea in the west of the main island of Honshû. Hiroshima has been a castle town (Ri-jô castle) since the end of the 16th century and was the imperial headquarters during the First Sino-Japanese War  (1894 / 95). The atomic bomb attack on August 6, 1945 destroyed most of the city completely and in total an estimated 140,000 people died by the end of this year (late effects of radioactive radiation).
