Kushiro City 釧路市
Hokkaidô
The somewhat remote city of Kushiro on the southeast coast of Hokkaidô on the Pacific Ocean is the cultural, economic and political centre of the eastern part of this northernmost Japanese main island. The city, with a population of nearly 180,000, has its own airport – Tanchô Kushiro Airport – and is the starting point for travellers to Akan Mashû National Park and Shiretoko National Park, among other places.
