Nagasaki City

長崎市

Nagasaki, located on the west coast of the island of Kyûshû, is one of the most beautiful and interesting cities in the country. With its Chinese temples, Christian churches and European testimonies, the city appears very exotic to the Japanese. The atomic bombing on August 9, 1945 brought sad fame to the port city, which today has a population of 393,000 (November 2023). Due to the country’s isolation for more than 200 years, the only trade corridor to foreign countries existed on the island of Dejima in the port of Nagasaki.
