Tokugawa-en 徳川園

Japanese stroll garden / japanischer Wandelgarten

Nagoya City

Next to the “Tokugawa Art Museum” in the Higashi-ku district of Nagoya is the Tokugawa-en, originally a villa designed in 1695 for the OWARI-TOKUGAWA Clan. The garden was badly damaged during the Second World War. After extensive renovation in 2004, a Japanese walking garden was created, with a large pond in its centre and a narrow path along its banks. Garden elements in form of rocks, bridges and artistically cut trees are carefully coordinated here.
