Yasuda-teien Garden

(旧)安田庭園

stroll garden / Wandelgarten

Yokoami / Tôkyô

Daimyo´s garden from the Edo period (1603-1868), the residence of the MATSUDAIRA clan. In the Meiji era (1868-1912), it became the residence of the Lord of Okayama, IKEDA Akimasa. 1879-1891, YASUDA Zenjiro, the founder of the “Yasuda Zaibatsu”, purchased the IKEDA residence, the main residence and the adjacent land. In 1922, the land was donated to the City of Tôkyô, but the following year, the Great Kanto Earthquake almost completely destroyed the old state of the land. The City restored the garden and opened it as a citizens’ garden in 1927. Later the garden was transferred to Sumida Ward where it was completely renovated. It reopened in May 1971. The Japanese Sword Museum is located here.
