Mifune-matsuri 三船祭り

“three boats procession”

Mifune-matsuri is held annualy in the month of May in Arashiyama in Kyôto‘s outskirts. It replays the scene of the emperor and his court when they used to enjoy boating on Ôi-gawa river – while classical music and arts are performed – during the Heian period (794-1192). The festival celebrates to commemorate the death of KIYOHARA Yorinari, a 12th-century Confucian scholar, who served the emperor. He was enshrined in Kurumazaki Shrine in Kyôto City.
