“Kusatsu post station festival”

Daimyô procession 大名行列

The annual festival in April refers to the historical background of the city. During the Edo period, Kusatsu served as a postal station for two overland routes – the Nakasendô and the Tôkaidô. The highlight of the festival, with a flea market, street performers and Japanese dance performances, is the Kusatsu-jidai-gyôretsu procession, which attempts to imitate a daimyô procession.
