City of Onomichi
The City of Onomichi, located halfway between Okayama and Hiroshima and facing the Seto Inland Sea, has prospered as a distribution center for marine transport since ancient times. With the opening of the “Sanyo Railway” in the Meiji era (1868-1912) Onomichi became a popular city in the eastern part of Hiroshima prefecture (Bingo region).
