高田博厚 (1900 – 1987)

Japanese sculptor, writer and translator who also developed a remarkable literary career | 1900 born in Nanao, Ishikawa Prefecture | 1919 moves to Tôkyô, studies Italian at the “Tokyo Foreign Language School”, drops out and learns sculpture from TAKAMURA Kôtarô | 1925~ his works wins prizes at the “Kokuga-kai” (Japanese artists’ group that was founded in 1918) | 1931 moves to Paris, France – leaving his wife and four child behind – where he studies the sculptures of Auguste RODIN and Antoine BOURDELLE and befriends a number of French intellectuals | 1957 returns to Japan, serves as a chairman of the Japanese PEN Club, becomes a member “Japan Artists Association”  and teaches at “Tokyo University of the Arts” | 1987 died
