Nexus World

Kashiihama / Fukuoka City 1988-1991

Joint architectural projects in Japan

At the end of the 1980s, the Japanese architect ISOZAKI Arata invited five foreign architects Christian DE PORTZAMPARC, Rem KOOLHAAS, Marc MACK, Steven HOLL, Óscar TUSQUETS and a Japanese architect ISHIYAMA Osamu to surround an existing apartment block area in the city of Fukuoka with new detached apartment buildings. Surrounded by Nexus World, the Nexus Kashii Central Garden contains 4 buildings, which feature facade designs supervised by ARQUITECONICA and landscape design by Martha SCHWARTZ. According to the client, these buildings were to usher in a new urban lifestyle in Japan. “Nexus” is named after the city development project in Momochi, the west part of Fukuoka, as a part of the water-front development plan.
